What the Dog Saw

Dogs see us do stuff all the time.

Yes, the dog is watching you.

Feel those soft brown eyes following your every move?

You are being thoughtfully, carefully, adoringly, sometimes worshipfully, observed.

Is it any wonder that dogs, like kids, sometimes want to do what WE do?

For example:

 YOU

THE DOG Plant a garden Plant a bone  Stand at the counter to make a sandwich Stand at the counter to eat the sandwich  Take the garbage pail out Take garbage out of the pail  Walk out the door without a leash Walk out the door without a leash  Yell at the kids Bark at the kids  Answer the door Answer the door  Talk on the phone Bark while you are on the phone  Go in the bathroom and shut the door Try to go into the bathroom with you  Sit on the sofa Sit on the sofa  Hug a family member Hug family members, friends, people in general  Lie on the bed Lie on your bed Get upset if someone tries to take your plate away before you are finished eatingGet upset if someone tries to take his bowl away before he is finished eating

So don’t be surprised if your dog acts in astonishing, and sometimes suspiciously human, ways. This does not mean that he IS human, or should be treated like one. He is still a different species than us, and correcting him the same way you would a badly behaved child will not be effective.
