I’ve been meeting quite a few dogs lately that seem to need to have something in their mouths when they greet new people. It somehow centers them, allowing them to approach a stranger gently – still enthusiastic, but less likely to jump, slobber, or mouth an unprepared guest.

So, what kinds of things do dogs carry?
