Spot Meets Dick and Jane

Most people who like dogs are compelled to pet them.

From a dog’s point of view, it can be intimidating, intrusive, and even terrifying, to see a human hand approaching your personal space.

So here is what every dog wishes humans knew about petting. Since children also like to touch dogs, this information will take the form of a familiar primer.

SEE DICK AND JANE.

SEE SPOT.

SEE DICK SEE SPOT.

DICK SQUEALS AND RUNS TO SPOT.

SEE SPOT’S EYES WIDEN.

SPOT STANDS FROZEN TO THE GROUND.

SEE SPOT TREMBLE AND WALK BACKWARDS.

DICK PUTS HIS HAND TOWARD SPOT TO PAT HIS HEAD.

SPOT FLINCHES AND GETS LOW TO THE GROUND.

DICK REACHES HIS ARMS OUT TO HUG SPOT.

SPOT GROWLS.

SPOT’S OWNER QUICKLY TAKES SPOT AWAY FROM DICK.

SEE JANE SEE SPOT.

JANE STANDS STILL AND QUIETLY WAITS FOR SPOT TO COME TO HER.

SEE SPOT SNIFF JANE.

JANE ASKS IF SHE CAN PET SPOT.

SPOT’S OWNER SAYS YES.

JANE SCRATCHES SPOT UNDER HIS CHIN.

JANE RUBS SPOT ON HIS CHEST.

SPOT LIKES TO BE TOUCHED ON BOTH PLACES.

SEE SPOT WAG HIS TAIL.

SEE JANE SMILE.
