A perfect match. That’s how you want all of your long-term commitments to be. Your job. Your significant other. Your house. Even your dog

Now how often does THAT happen?

Here’s a game to play to test your ability to pick the wrong dog for the potential owners described below.

Yes, the WRONG dog.

Because inevitably, that is what happens. We fall for the dog that will make us lay awake at night musing “What was I thinking?!?”

So, identify the worst combinations of dog-parent and dog, and see how you score by scrolling way down.

POTENTIAL DOG OWNERS

1) Elderly woman who uses a cane, watches TV most of the day, and believes that food is love.      

2) Family of five, consisting of two working parents and three children ages 2, 5 and 8.                     

3) Single guy, living in a downtown apartment, working for the State Legislature.                                  

4) Young married couple in a small starter home with no backyard.

5) Retired couple with two homes and three adult children all living in different states.

THE DOGS

A) Four year old Greyhound

B) Two year old Jack Russell Terrier

C) One year old Siberian Husky

D) Nine year old Chihuahua

E) Eight month old Chocolate Lab

And for those of you unfamiliar with breed characteristics, here are some brief descriptions:

Greyhound – needs running exercise; strong instinct to chase small animals; can be fearful and emotionally sensitive especially to abrupt changes in schedule; slow to housebreak; independent; often has separation anxiety.

Jack Russell Terrier – happy-go-lucky and friendly; highly energetic, intense and focused; requires vigorous daily play sessions; boredom leads to destructive behaviors; prone to be escape artists; have a mind of their own; may be quite vocal.

Siberian Husky -very playful, athletic, and agile; loves the great outdoors and requires vigorous exercise, especially in cool weather; can be destructive without it. Should be taken running every day, always on-leash due to a tendency to run away.

Chihuahua – comical, entertaining and loyal; can be noisy, suspicious, and threatening toward strangers; difficult to housebreak

; fragile and prone to injury.

Chocolate Labrador – friendly, good-natured, rowdy and exuberant; needs lots of exercise; tendency to chew things and be destructive, often for its whole life, particularly when bored.
